An unattended cooking pot on a stove can cause extensive damage, as residents of 1232 - 112th Street in North Battleford found out Sunday evening.
An alarm came into North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services at just after 5:30 p.m. and three apparatus and eight firefighters spent about 45 minutes at the scene.
Fire officials report the house sustained moderate smoke damage to all floors, and the front door was damaged when firefighters were forced to break in to gain access to the fire.
At almost the same time Sunday the department was also called on to dispatch a pumper truck and three firefighters the second dumpster fire of the day. They were called out just after 4 p.m. to a garbage fire that spread to a fence at 10113 Borden Cres. Fire officials say 12 feet of fence was destroyed as well as the dumpster lids.
Saturday firefighters attended two vehicle fires, one right after the other.
At just after 4 p.m. firefighters doused a vehicle fire at 1312 - 105th St. The fire was confined to the vehicle of origin and NBFES says damage to the interior of the vehicle was minor.
Two hours later at about 6:30 p.m. firefighters were called to a vehicle fire at the rear of 1221 - 106th St. The fire, deemed suspicious, had fully engulfed the passenger compartment by the time fire crews arrived. The vehicle is said to be a total loss.
NBFES attended another cooking fire on Windor Crescent Thursday, Oct. 13. The fire was contained to the pan and extinguished by the resident. Firefighters stayed on the scene for a short while to ventilate smoke from the suite.
Firefighters found bear spray to the cause of a report of a strange odour at 10901 Winder Cres. At about 4 a.m. Wednesday.
