City representatives at the National Job Fair in Toronto last week report making contact with people interested in relocating to the Battlefords for jobs.
Director of Business Development says he and Jennifer Niesink of the Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre estimate they spoke with 1,800 people over the two days of the fair.
"We have resumés from more than 300 people who said they are interested in relocating to North Battleford for employment and our amenities," said Denis Lavertu.
"Having representation from the Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre was extremely beneficial because at least 40 percent of job seekers were newcomers to Canada who were looking for opportunities outside of Ontario."
Lavertu said a high number of health care professionals including nurses, doctors, lab technicians and medical administrators were at the job fair to scope out jobs. A North Battleford manufacturer made numerous connections with production leads, welders, assemblers, operators and engineers.
"Our quality of life made a big impression on the people we spoke with," said Lavertu. "A lot of residents loved the idea of short commutes, the abundance of recreation and, most importantly, housing at half the cost."
Lavertu says attracting labour and enhanced training to North Battleford will assist local employers when it comes to managing their growth over the next few years.
