Charges have been stayed against a former Mosquito treaty land trustee who has been leading efforts to expose TLE fraud on the reserve.
Robert Armstrong had faced one charge of assault and a charge of uttering threats in connection to an alleged pushing incident involving Milton Oxebin. The incident was said to have happened on the reserve this spring during the band election.
Armstrong had denied the incident took place and had alleged that the charges were laid in retaliation for his own activity investigating Treaty Land Entitlement fraud and other corruption on the reserve. Armstrong had cooperated with the RCMP in their efforts to collect evidence and bring fraud and breach of trust charges against five band officials including former Chief Clarence Stone in that TLE fraud case. That case is still before the courts.
Armstrong had vowed to fight his own charges in court; however, a resolution has been reached between the Crown and defence.
In his appearance in North Battleford provincial court Wednesday morning, Armstrong agreed to enter into a one-year peace bond where he agrees not to have any contact with Oxebin for that time. In return, both the assault and the uttering threats charges have been stayed by the Crown.
