EAST CENTRAL — Beginning in December, anyone accessing Carlton Trail College’s locations will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within seven days.
In preparation for college-wide implementation on Dec. 3, current board members, staff and students were asked to fill out a form declaring their vaccination status. Individuals can update it once they’ve received their vaccination.
“Our first phase of efforts was focused on encouraging board, staff and students to declare their vaccination status and ensuring that there was some time to allow for arrangements to be made for testing, or arrangements to be made for further testing,” said Jennifer Brooks, Carlton Trail College’s director of development, communications, partnerships and planning.
Individuals registering in the online-only Ed2Go, UGotClass or other, online-only courses that do not require access to College facilities or resources are exempt and do not need to provide proof of vaccination or negative test results.
For proof of vaccination, Carlton Trail College will recognize the card issued by the Saskatchewan Health Authority at the time of vaccination; a copy of a vaccination record obtained online through MySaskHealthRecord; records entered into the digital SK Vax Wallet; or a letter of verification from a doctor or pharmacist in Saskatchewan.
“The intent of this is to provide the safest possible environment we can for the learning community. In order to do so we know provincial numbers show vaccination significantly reduces the likelihood of catching COVID-19 and the severity of cases in those who do catch it,” Brooks said.
For proof of a negative test result, a self-administered take-home rapid antigen test will not be accepted as valid proof of negative COVID-19 test results. Individuals requiring a negative test result have several private options on the market that will provide a rapid antigen test or a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for a fee.
The cost for all proof of negative test results is the responsibility of the individual.
Registration remains open for the College’s programs, courses and training. Further information about how to adhere to proof of vaccination or negative testing measures will be communicated to individuals upon registration.
