SASKATOON — The final $50,000 top prize on the Only in Sask scratch ticket has been claimed by Stanley Mission’s Paul McKenzie, marking an end to the one-of-a-kind provincial ticket.

Following its release in February, Only in Sask became Saskatchewan’s only provincially-exclusive scratch ticket since Sask Lotteries was incorporated five decades ago.

Before grabbing his morning coffee, McKenzie stopped by the Canadian Tire Gas+ at 290 Marquis Rd. in Prince Albert and bought the winning ticket. While he drank his coffee, McKenzie scratched the ticket and uncovered a winning line, but waited until he had scratched the entire ticket before uncovering the corresponding prize amount.

When he did, he was in for a surprise.

"I couldn't believe it. I had to double check [the symbols] myself."

Since winning, McKenzie “still doesn’t know how to feel,” but has had some time to think about his plan for the prize, sharing that he would like to take his kids on a trip.

The Only in Sask ticket commemorates the 50th anniversary of Sask Lotteries and features locally illustrated icons of sport, culture and recreation activities. Since 1974, through an agreement with the Government of Saskatchewan, $1.4 billion in proceeds from the sale of lottery products purchased through Sask Lotteries have benefitted more than 12,000 sport, culture and recreation groups across the province.

"It's a good one. And it’s all just for Saskatchewan," said McKenzie about the ticket.

The first $50,000 ONLY IN SASK prize was claimed in April.

Sold only at the more than 1,000 Lotto Spot retailers across the province, the ticket reached $1.1 million in sales in the less than four months it was available to purchase.
