Building permits in North Battleford are up for the month of June and, for that matter, the first six months of the year.
According to building permit numbers released by the City of North Battleford this week, 83 permits for a value of $30,411,500 have been issued through June, 2010. That is higher than the 73 issued for $12,529,500 in 2009.
For the month of June, 16 permits were issued for a value of $1,258,000, compared to 13 for $792,000 last year.
Leading the increase in permit values for June was one institutional alteration for $409,500, issued to Living Sky School Division. That compares to one permit issued for $158,000 last year in the same category.
There were also four garage/carport permits for $95,000 and seven residential alterations for $40,500. As well, there was one industrial alteration for $100,000.
Two new dwelling permits were issued in June for $545,000, compared to two for $548,000 issued last year during the same month.
There was also one demolition permit issued for $68,000.
For the year so far there continues to be a spike in permits for new dwellings. There have been 18 new dwelling permits for $4,453,000 compared to seven for $1,810,000 issued last year through June.
New condo units are also up: three for $2,632,000 compared to one for $1,050,000.
As well, garage/carports are up to 18 permits for $326,500 compared to seven for $152,500; commercial alterations are up to six for $2,182,000 compared to four for $1,559,000; and three new industrial permits for $10,650,00 compared to none in 2009.
There are also spikes in value in industrial alterations and institutional alterations.
The significant drops for the year come in new institutional, RTM-prefabricated and new commercial building permits. Only one new commercial building permit was issued for $600,000, compared to two for $2,480,000, while no new institutional or RTM-prefabricated permits were issued this year.
Overall, building permit values for 2010 in North Battleford continue to be well above last year's overall total for the year by about $4 million. The building permit report for June was submitted by Building Inspector Jerry Wintonyk.
