BRUNO — After receiving $187,000 in government funding, Bruno will be adding approximately 150 metres of piping to its system of water mains, creating a full pipe loop on the south side of town.

“For the residents on the south side of the track, this will mean increased reliability in the service,” said Colette Radcliffe, Bruno’s administrator. “Currently there’s one feeder line under the railroad track, and so if anything would happen to that line, the entire south end of town would be out of water.”

Radcliffe said this new loop will ensure that if the one feeder is impacted in an emergency, the other could be switched to.

“You never want just one line because if something happened at the track and – God forbid – there was ever a train derailment or anything they would be out of water for an indeterminate amount of time.”

Construction is expected to begin mid-July and be completed by fall.

Tenders are being handled by the engineering consultants Pinter and Associates Ltd.

Funding for the project is coming from the community, culture, recreation and green infrastructure streams of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, which is allocating more than $81.2 million in combined federal and provincial funding for 23 infrastructure projects across the province.

For the water loop expansion the federal government is providing approximately $102,000, the province is providing about $85,000, and the town will be responsible for the remaining amount of about $68,000.
