Boys and Girls Club offers new program

Battlefords Boys and Girls Club is heading south with a new after school program.

Although the BBGC has run an after-school program in North Battleford for over 30 years, as well as an evening program, this school year will be the first year the BBGC offers the after school program in Battleford.

"We're trying to broaden our horizons and accommodate more people in the community," said Jill Campbell, executive directors assistant.

Campbell said the program would be open Monday to Friday to children aged six to 14 and cost roughly $35 per week.

"It's in a great location," said Campbell. "It's right in between the two schools, so kids will be able to walk and parents won't have to worry about getting them there."

The program will take place at 303, 24 Street, in a building owned by the town.

Town council voted at their last regular meeting, Aug. 16, to offer the facility at a reduced rate to the organization.

"We were pleased when they came back and told us that's what they decided," said Campbell.

The after school program features a variety of activities and crafts, as well as themed days, such as Nutrition Day or Sports Day.

Parents who are unable to pay the fee can apply for a fine option program if they meet certain requirements.
