The North Battleford Good Neighbour Network block party is set to bring community members together Sept. 10, at a new venue and with new partners.
The Third Avenue United Church and Living Faith Chapel approached the NBGNN with an offer to partner in the event, says spokesman Steven Cormons. This year the party will be held in Central Park, beside the North Battleford Library. The street between the churches will also be blocked to traffic.
Everyone in the community is invited to enjoy music, free hot dogs, popcorn and drinks from noon to 6 p.m. There will also be face painting and children's prizes.
"The yearly event is about neighbours getting to know each, to share fun and have fun," says Cormons.
"It's a way to tell those who care about safe, comfortable neighbourhoods that we are there for each other and let those who don't care, know that we are watching out for each other."
Cormans adds the event is also an opportunity for community organizational stakeholders to share information, have booth space, put on an activity and to promote an agenda of neighbourhood wellness.
The NBGNN is looking for support so the event can be free to all who participate. Ways to help include supplying hotdogs, condiments, refreshments, a sound system, portapotties/sewer services, a large tent and volunteer time. Cormons says the organization is not looking for cash, only in-kind donations.
Community organizations that promote neighbourhood wellness are invited to share their information at booth spaces that can be provided.
"Aside from social, health and justice organizations, businesses are just as much a stakeholder an donations from local businesses would be greatly appreciated," Cormons says.
