BJORKDALE — There were a few Bjorkdale kids that took part in the hunter safety classes that were running in Tisdale from January to March. Congrats to Cooper Bartsch, Nathan Horn, Garett Babcock and Dawson Kehrig on passing this course. Four new hunters will be in the mix next season.

The Saskatchewan firearms association teaches kids and adults the valuable rules and responsibilities when it comes to owning your own gun. These courses hope to instill in the hunter a sense of values and code of ethics that reflect the expectations of society.

The Village of Bjorkdale just received word from Veteran Affairs Canada that they have been approved for $2,500 in funding to purchase memorial banners to be installed at Memorial Park in Bjorkdale. To date, there are 24 names that have been submitted to the Village office to purchase memorial banners for the Veterans who resided in and around the Bjorkdale area. If you are interested or have a family member that would like to be recognized for their service, please contact the Village office at 306-886-2167 before April 29. These banners will be installed this fall before Remembrance Day and an official ceremony will be planned with more details to follow.

The Beeland Co-operative Ltd. officially announced their intentions to formally amalgamate with Parkland and Carrot River Co-ops. Informational meetings will be held to review the benefits of partnerships at the Bjorkdale Store on April 6 from 3 – 4 p.m. with coffee and donuts with the general manager. In the pamphlet they mailed out it included the new proposed directors. Jill Szeliga of Bjorkdale is included in this new potential board. The Bjorkdale Renegades men’s rec. hockey team played their last home game on March 27. They played against the ladies Tisdale Tangas rec. team. With the temperatures staying below zero, the ice is in fairly decent shape and skating is still a go for now. Once it becomes too soft, the Bjorkdale Skating rink board will call it a year. Thanks to all the skating rink board members who help keep the rink running in our community and providing a great place for kids to enjoy skating, hockey and keeping active throughout the long winter months.

Dawson Kehrig and his under 13AA Tisdale team claimed victory over Martensville 4-1 on Sunday March 27 to represent the North in the provincial finals against Swift Current. This is a best of 3 series with the first game held on March 30th. This game went into triple overtime with Swift Current winning in the end unfortunately. The next game will be in Swift Current on April 3. Good luck.

The Porcupine School of Dance is hosting their annual Dance Recital on Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m. Bjorkdale has several dancers which include Nasya Oroszc, Maraya Oroszc, Brynn Goldsworthy, Sarah Goldsworthy, Mirra  Currey and Abby Van Or Schott. Many will be excited to watch as this will be the first recital in over two years.

After reading the latest news that the East Central Recorder will now be online only, it definitely makes me a bit sad that I won’t be able to actually grab the weekly newspaper from PJ’s and read all the latest news in our area. I can understand why the switch to online only but there is something I will really miss about grabbing the weekly newspaper and reading it at coffee time. Times are definitely changing.
