Awareness walk Sunday for Happy Charles who has been missing 5 years

Happy Charles was last seen on April 3, 2017, in the area of the Prince Albert Collegiate Institute Kinsmen Park area

PRINCE ALBERT – An awareness walk is planned for April 3, the five-year anniversary since Happy Mary Charles was last seen.

Charles was last seen on April 3, 2017, in the area of the Prince Albert Collegiate Institute Kinsmen Park area, 45-20th Street West.

"Police continue to actively investigate Happy's disappearance and are asking the public to contact police with any information they may have,” said Charlene Tebbutt, spokesperson for Prince Albert Police in a statement to media Wednesday.

Police hit a dead end in 2019 after they released photos of a man in surveillance photos and asked the public for help identifying him. In November 2019 police said they identified the man in the photos and determined he wasn’t a suspect.

In June 2020, police searched a rural area outside of the city after following up on information that identified a possible location connected to Charles’ disappearance. The police, however, came up empty handed saying unfortunately, the area described was vast and the information wasn’t enough to determine the exact location identified.

“Whatever the truth is, the family and all those connected deserve to know what happened to their loved one,” said Prince Albert Police Sgt. Kathy Edwardsen previously. “We urge anyone who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and help police find the truth.”

According to the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Charles was born March 22, 1975, is 5-foot-3 and 112 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair, and a scar on her left cheek. She also has a tattoo of a rose on her right hand. She was wearing a black leather biker jacket, light blue jeans, grey baseball hat, prescription glasses and a black Starter backpack when she was last seen.

The walk on Sunday starts at 11 a.m. in the PACI/Kinsmen Park area and will proceed directly along 22nd Street, heading west toward to the PAGC billboard across from the Victoria Hospital on 10th Ave. W.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Happy Charles is asked to contact Prince Albert Police at 306-953-4222, or by email at  [email protected], or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
