Art walk master plan project awarded

The city of North Battleford is proceeding with the development of a master plan for an Art Walk through Coronation Park.

The city of North Battleford is proceeding with the development of a master plan for an Art Walk through Coronation Park.

The project is described as "introducing art and sculpture into the landscape," according to parks and recreation director Keith Anderson, using sculptures from the biennial Sculpture Symposium. The idea is for this Art Walk to connect the Allen Sapp Gallery and the Chapel Gallery

A grant of $16,000 was received from Sask. Culture with another $13,000 set aside in the city budget, all to go to consulting fees to develop the master plan for the Art Walk.

At council Monday, two bids were received on the tender for the master plan, which was awarded to Aecom at an amount of $24,651.

The Aecom bid was actually higher than the competing bid of Crosby Hanna and Associates by $251, however, according to Anderson's memo to council, Aecom's proposal talked specifically to public art in the landscape. The project leader for Aecom's proposal is Terry Klassen who was primary architect on the King Street Station project as well as the King Hill Lookout project.
