With just $1.8 million between them and their goal of $10 million, the Raise the Roof! CUPlex fundraising comittee is planning another "million dollar day."
"It's really going to be a celebration," said Rob Rongve, co-chair of the fundraising committee. "It's staggering we've been able to raise this much."
The event will take place April 5 at 11 a.m. in Territorial Mall and will be broadcast live on radio.
Anyone and everyone is invited to come and make a donation, whether big or small.
Rongve said a number of businesses have already stepped up to the plate, but who and how much won't be announced until the big day. Rongve did indicate, however, that some of the businesses are donating to the project for the first time.
So far, only 69 businesses out of over 800 in the community have supported the CUPlex fundraising effort.
"It's amazing how far we've gotten with so few people stepping up," said Rongve, adding only about 220 individuals have contributed out of an estimated population of 18,000.
"It we could double the participation, even if it's smaller amounts, it would be incredible," he said.
Rongve said although there are a number of naysayers in the community, many people have been supportive of the multiplex project, which will greatly benefit the Battlefords.
"The community has stepped up in a huge way," said Rongve. "We had lots of people at the start telling us they never thought we'd even get close and the fact we've gotten this close - they're just blown away."
The Raise the Roof! Fundraising committee may be short a few dollars, but one thing they aren't short of is determination.
"We're damn well going to get there, come hell or high water," said Rongve.
