The Western Development Museum reopened on Tuesday after the bout of vandalism on Friday night that damaged eight buildings, and is in the process of revamping its security systems to avoid a similar incident in the future. The perpetrators kicked in doors, smashed windows and caused general damage to chairs and one hundred year-old set of plates. The affected buildings will likely be closed until the outdoor museum reopens in the spring of 2012 to allow insurance agents to assess the damage done and museum staff to replace what has been lost. Though the financial cost of the damage is not yet known, several of the items damaged were period items, making them irreplaceable. Police have not released further information, as the investigation is ongoing. Anyone wishing to help the museum in the aftermath of the attacks can reach museum staff at 445-8033.
