The Western Development Museum is holding its annual "A Prairie Christmas" event from Dec. 16 to 18, with days for elementary school students, families and seniors.
In preparation for the event, museum staff have decorated the museum, creating Christmas-themed displays, murals and even a house for Santa's arrival.
Friday, the museum will hold its day for elementary school students, during which time it will not be open to the public. School groups will be able to make seasonal crafts, watch a puppet show, take a sleigh ride through the Heritage Village and, of course, visit Santa.
Saturday is family day at the event, which starts with a pancake breakfast at 9 to 11 a.m. For lunch, there will be a wiener roast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and there will be another wiener roast from 5 to 7 p.m.
Though the event obviously features Santa from noon to 4 p.m., there is a large number of other activities - walking tours, scavenger hunts, crafts, games, and even Christmas-themed movies - so all participants will be able to find something enjoyable to do. The event even features a magic show, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Sunday, the museum is holding a seniors' day. In addition to featuring live music from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., participants will be able to take a walking or horse-drawn tour through the Heritage Village and enjoy the displays. There will also be lunch available, and a concession stand open for the duration of the event.
