A new president takes over this week at the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce.

New president Scott Campbell was officially handed the gavel by outgoing president Leah Milton at Tuesday night's Chamber annual meeting.

Campbell's election as president was made unanimously by directors in what was a largely ceremonial vote. He was officially sworn into office Thursday night at Alex Dillabough Centre in Battleford at the annual President's Dinner.

During the board of directors meeting that took place earlier in the evening, a number of new executives were elected. Pat Smith of Battlefords Co-op was appointed first vice-president, Sharon Mohagen was named second vice-president, and Rory Anderson as treasurer. Rhonda Seidel was named North Battleford representative while Bill Halewich will serve as the Battleford representative. Leah Milton will continue on the executive as past-president. Jim LaFreniere was appointed member-at-large of the executive committee.

The meeting was also the first for the six brand-new directors elected in the last election.

Campbell said after the meetings wrapped up he was looking forward to the year ahead, particularly working with the newer young directors.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge, and again I'm fortunate because the Battlefords is doing very well," said Campbell. "What we need to do in the Battlefords is be ready for business."

For her part, Milton said she "isn't going away any time soon" and expects Campbell to do a "great job" as president.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed this past year. It was an exciting year in the Battlefords, lots of exciting projects happening for businesses, and as usual we had a very good year," she said.
