The Northlands Power Curling Centre is about more than curling. It's also about entertainment and getting together.

This Saturday the upper level of the curling facility will be the scene of an evening of jazz and pop standards presented by Saskatoon-based band Standard Transmission.

Local musician and live music performance booster Laird Brittin says, "These guys come as highly regarded players and entertainers and will perform in the well-appointed space upstairs at the club. Come on out, have a couple of refreshments and enjoy some live entertainment. Should be fun."

Members of Standard Transmission are David MacLachlan, Peter Hynes, Paul Sartison and David Bindle. They play selections from the American Songbook (think Andy Williams and Frank Sinatra) as well as pop and rock tunes from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

They say their show is perfect for crowds of 50 to 100 people and they also enjoy playing at house concerts.

The four musicians all have lengthy resumés in the music world, from playing in folk rock bands and church groups to orchestras and ensembles.

The show begins at 8:30. Admission is $15 and tickets are available from Terry at Nufloors in North Battleford.
