Humboldt continues to be a destination act for musicians from Ontario, as Tom Savage from Kingston, Ont. stopped in at the Humboldt Golf Club on Sept. 26.

Savage became the latest in a long line of Ontario bands to make a stop in the city, following Kayla Howran and Dylan Ireland, who made a pair of stops over the last 12 months.

Savage decided to give Humboldt a try after Howran mentioned to him that it was a good place to play, and says he had a really great time.

鈥淚t was an awesome crowd, the room sounded great, they were in to it. You can鈥檛 ask for anything more.鈥

Savage brought a show featuring mostly all original music, which he describes as a mixture of country, folk, blues, and rock.

鈥淚t depends on the individual listening to it. They come away from it with different impressions of what it is to them.鈥

The set list was something that Savage says he has fallen on to during his latest tour. He always starts, and finishes, his set with the same two songs.

鈥淓verything in between is on the fly,鈥 he laughed.

The show at the golf club was a familiar setting, Savage says, as he is used to playing is similar venues.

鈥淚t鈥檚 just nice to have a sit down listening crowd as opposed to a rowdy bar room, which I kind of go back and forth depending on the gig.鈥

Savage was not the only musician playing some music during the evening, as Humboldt Collegiate Institute student Clea Parsaligan brought her own musical talents to the concert.

Arts Humboldt Treasurer and concert organizer, Brian Grest, notes it was important to showcase local talent as well as talent from other parts of the country.

鈥淪he has never actually been on stage like she was tonight. It鈥檚 a great opportunity to give someone an opportunity to get their feet wet. And she鈥檚 a local artist so a good opportunity for someone local.鈥

The concert also exceeded the expectations of Arts Humboldt, noted Grest during the show, saying they needed to add extra seating to accommodate the crowd.

鈥淎 huge thank you to the big crowd tonight for coming out in droves and for showing the hospitality to another visiting artist,鈥 noted Grest.
