The Fonz is coming to Humboldt and he's bringing his friends, including Richie and Potzie.
This year the Humboldt Collegiate Institute's (HCI) musical is "Happy Days," based on the popular television series.
"We looked at many options," said Glenda Lees. "The students liked the idea of doing a 1950s play."
The story of the play takes place in 1959, when "the gang is graduating from Grade 12," said Lees.
The directors were excited at the prospect of doing a play based on a beloved television series.
"We watched the T.V. show as kids," said Lees about her and Jamie White, the other director.
"If anyone enjoyed the T.V. show, they will enjoy this play."
Although the television series was not always appropriate for children, the directors have been working to make the show appropriate for all ages.
"We made sure the show is family appropriate in every way," said Lees.
The play isn't just for those who enjoyed the television series.
"The characters and plot are introduced in the first act," so people who have never seen the series will enjoy it as well, said Lees.
All of the students and teachers involved in the play have been enjoying the experience so far.
"It's been very fun (although) it is hard to get that many kids together to practice," said Lees. "Each time we practice we get better."
Happy Days is a full length musical, which is different from last year's musical, Aladdin.
Aladdin was a junior musical, so it was shorter, had less harmony and less complex music and lyrics, said Lees.
"The music (in "Happy Days") is fabulous," said Lees.
Even though they have a greater challenge before them this year, the actors are dedicated to giving the best performance they can.
"The students are very hard working and capable," said Lees. "The kids who haven't sang before in a musical are and are doing a great job... The students have (also) definitely been researching their characters."
Lees said the musical would not be possible without the help of all the people involved, from costume designers to musical accompaniment.
The musical will run from March 9-13. Tickets are available at Shoppers' Drug Store.
