The new local artist featured at the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery (HDMG), Carlos Correa, takes photographs while on the road for his job at Access Communications. His collection at the museum is called, "On the Road."
In a month, Correa travels about 4,500 kilometres, which has helped him see a lot of the Saskatchewan countryside.
Since he is from Â鶹´«Ã½AV America, Correa decided to take photographs to send to his friends and family back home, to show them what Canada is like.
"I take photos to communicate to friends and family where I am or places nearby," said Correa. "We don't have mountains or snow in my country, for example."
Since he travels so much, Correa ended up with a large collection of photographs.
"They are all pictures I took on the road during working trips," said Correa. "When I am driving somewhere (for example) to Rosetown, if I see something I stop and take a picture."
He takes photographs of whatever catches his eye. It could be a specific subject but other times it is a scene, like the way the light is reflecting or the way the clouds look at the time.
"There was one time when I didn't stop... I thought I would take a picture the next time I drove past," said Correa. He explained he regrets not stopping, because although he has passed that place numerous times, it has never looked the same.
Correa doesn't use a bunch of specialized equipment to take photographs.
"Eighty per cent of them are taken with an iPhone," said Correa.
He will use a little bit of Photoshop or Instagram to touch up his photos sometimes.
Correa has been taking photos since he was 13, when he would help his father at their local newspaper.
"Whenever he was busy, I would cover events for him," explained Correa.
Taking photos for his dad helped him develop an eye for what makes a good photograph.
After helping his father, Correa went on to take media courses, where he took two years of photography classes.
"I know how to take a picture and tell a story," said Correa.
"On the Road" will be on display at HDMG until the end of August.
