Youth for Christ's Two42 Drop-in Centre held their first basketball tournament at Credit Union CUplex June 15.

The tournament was designed to get the youth and their friends who attend the drop-in centre out on a professional court, show their skills and have a great time.

"We are so pleased we could hold this tournament for our youth of Two42," says Theresa Rennie, Two42 Drop-in Centre co-ordinator and organizer of the tournament.

"They absolutely love playing basketball when they come to the centre, so to hold a day just for them with prizes and good food was a great event for youth who may not always get this opportunity."

Organizers and volunteers were pleased with the number of participants as 30 youth took part in the event, ranging in age from 12 to 25 years old. Prizes and pizza were provided by the generous businesses within the Battlefords and Two42 is greatly appreciative of them.

"The basketball tournament was fun. There were awesome prizes!" exclaimed one youth who had participated.

It was such a success and enjoyed by the youth Two42 hopes to hold another tournament next year.

Two42 will remain open during the summer months with extended hours of noon to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All youth in the Battlefords are encouraged to come and check out the center. The games room includes a pool table, foosball, Xbox and air hockey. There are opportunities to participate in for team sports, such as basketball and floor hockey, participate in Coach's Corner with an inspirational message and enjoy the homemade cookies.

The centre is located at 1371 - 103rd St. Two42 will also be holding a fundraising barbecue at M&M Meat Shop Wednesday, July 31 noon to 5 p.m. Funds raised by the youth will help cover registration costs to attend Ranger Lake Camp.
