Your social life at the library

You know you can get books at your local library. Maybe you know you can access ebooks and newspapers online. You might even know you can get free music.

You know you can get books at your local library. Maybe you know you can access ebooks and newspapers online. You might even know you can get free music. But do you know there is a whole world of social events happening right at your local branch?

Children have access to all sorts of fun at the library. Many of our branches have story times for children, which include a story, crafts, songs and more. Children learn the importance of words and make friends at the same time. And during story time moms and dads have a chance to hang out, too. Chat and have some fun while the kids are entertained. The Marsden Library even has a coffee and tea station for parents.

There are plenty of opportunities for crafty folks. There are quilting bees, craft afternoons and scrapbooking clubs. If your local branch does not offer what you're looking for, just tell the librarian what you're interested in. You could be the founding member of a new club!

Libraries also have plenty of opportunities to learn. You can go to a class on gardening or on painting. The Borden Library has a lawyer giving advice twice a month. The North Battleford Library has a writers' group where you can hone your talents.

You can also just come and chat for an afternoon tea. The Mayfair Library has coffee and friendly company every week.

The library is a public space. If you have a group you'd like to start, talk to the librarian about meeting at your local library. You'll be surprised by all the new people who want to drop in when you're meeting in a public place!
