Speers United Church held their Christmas interdenominational music program two weeks ago, with good attendance. Seven community churches participated with a gospel trio from Barrhead, Alta. included. They were on tour to many small Saskatchewan towns. Their singing captivated the attentive crowd who were asked to join them in singing most of the well-known carols. Lunch and fellowship concluded the program. Photo by Elaine Woloshyn

Kids seem to be eager to learn cooking skills, according to Ashlee Babiy, the local Tupperware dealer. A couple of weeks ago, children as young as three attended a 鈥淟earn to Bake鈥 workshop in Mayfair Hall. The pre-kindergarten children baked cookies and took them home in Tupperware.

Congratulations to Joyce Carriere on her 40th anniversary as the Spiritwood librarian. There was a well-attended come and go tea in her honour Nov. 1 at the library.

Mark your calendars for the Dec. 24 Christmas Eve mass at 听7 p.m. at Mayfair All Saints Catholic Church. Father Frederick Akah will also be charge of Hafford鈥檚 mass at 9:30 p.m. and then again on Christmas Day at 10 a.m. Father Maurice will be performing the mass at Marcelin at 7:30 p.m. and Muskeg Lake at 10 p.m.

There will be a children鈥檚 nativity scene at the Mayfair church service. Faye Liebaert is the organizer and she can be contacted at 306-246-4386 or 306-441-6950.

An adult choir will include anyone who likes to sing. To learn about the selected hymns call me at 306-445-9992 or 306-481-4570. They are all familiar carols including more than just the first verse. Most people know only the first verse, but we will be performing more than that. Practising at home should not be a big chore, as most people love Christmas music.

I attended, along with Faye and Keith Liebaert, the funeral service last Saturday for George Nachtegaele of the Iffley/Scentgrass area. His wife Muriel and he resided for many years on their cattle ranch. He took great pride in raising purebred Herefords. He earned many ribbons at cattle shows.

听The last few months I have attended more funerals than ever. This next week and a half there are four more to fit into my busy pre-Christmas schedule.

A big thank you to Paul and Pauline Sayers of Meota for writing the script and choosing the appropriate music for the processional candlelight ceremony Nov. 24 and 25 at the North Battleford Dekker Centre. I was one of the singers in the choir and got to meet many new people at the practices. It was a memorable experience to be on the Dekker Centre stage. Peggy Gilchrist, the music director and his wife, the pianist, and the others in the band worked diligently to present this first-class entertainment. There is buzz next year will be another success.

Children are counting how many sleeps before Santa and his reindeer will appear. They will have a least two weeks of winter holiday and let鈥檚 hope the weatherman will co-operate.
