Yard sale, wiener roast and bingo fundraisers held

Borden Co-op held a yard sale Aug. 18 with a fundraiser chili and bun lunch, with proceeds going to the Community Centre Preservation Committee.

Borden Co-op held a yard sale Aug. 18 with a fundraiser chili and bun lunch, with proceeds going to the Community Centre Preservation Committee. Winning door prizes were Sage Graham and Cailey Larner for the kids and Florence Neufeld and Gay Funk for the adults. The kids also got balloons, colouring books and an extra prize if they pulled a sucker with a star on it.

The Borden library held a fundraiser wiener roast and bingo at the sports ground Aug. 15, with a very poor turnout. Prizes donated by Helen Sutherland, Peter Thiessen, Cyndy Fairbrother, Jodine Siebert, Dianne Sylvester, Lee Tracksell, Carol Crabb, Affinity CU, Block's Agencies, Good Year Market Tire and Saskatoon Light and Power went to Leanne (three), Jonathon (two) and Graham Sargent, Marcelle Desrosier, Carol Crabb (two), Helen Sutherland, Mary (two) and Peter Thiessen, Jean Sawchyn (three), Cyndy Fairbrother, Dianne Tracksell (two) and Lorraine Olinyk. Leanne Sargent donated two pies she won to the bingo caller, Matt Fairbrother, who also provided the sound system.

The Borden Light Horse 4-H Club held their Achievement Day Aug. 14 at the Borden sports grounds Memorial Park arena, with 10 members participating. In the morning the members did judging and displayed their record books. They had written their questionnaires at a meeting.

The members are Cloverbuds - Tearia Tracksell, Savannah Sutherland and Brooke Faith; juniors - Angellaya Tracksell, Spencer and Colton Thiessen, Rachel Sutherland and Cassidy Serhienko; intermediate - Emma Prescesky; senior -Melissa Saunders. General leader was Alana Gunsch, with leaders Sonia Sutherland and Taya Richardson. Record books were judged by Lynette Schmidt and Dorothy Fouhy and the judge of the classes was Dave Roberts of 4-Ever R Acres Ranch at Grandora.

In senior and intermediate showmanship Melissa was first and Emma second. In juniors, it was Cassidy first, Rachel second, Colton third, Spencer fourth and Angellaya fifth. In Cloverbuds, Savannah was first, Tearia second and Brooke third. In Western pleasure Melissa and Emma were first in their class; in juniors first was Cassidy, second Spencer, third Colton and fourth Rachel. Cloverbuds had Savannah first, Tearia second, Brooke third and Angellaya honourable mention (as she was to be in juniors).

In horsemanship, where they had to follow a pattern, Melissa was first and Emma second. In juniors Colton was first, Cassidy second, Rachel third and Spencer fourth and in Cloverbuds first went to Tearia, second to Savannah, third to Brooke and fourth to Angellaya. In record books Melissa and Emma were first and in juniors Rachel was first, Cassidy second and Colton third. In Cloverbuds they all received red ribbons.

In judging horses, Melissa and Emma were first, in juniors Rachel was first , Cassidy second and Angellaya third. In the egg stomp, first was Tearia, second Melissa and Brooke was third. In the egg and spoon contest, Melissa was first, Spencer second and Cassidy third. In the walk and lead, first was Spencer, second Savannah, third Emma. In the barrel racing Melissa was first in seniors. In juniors, it was Colton first, Spencer second and Rachel third; and in Cloverbuds Savannah was first, Brooke second and Tearia third.

The rain started just as they finished barrels and they went under cover for the presentation of certificates and thank you's to judges, leaders, sponsors and anyone helping out.

The Borden seniors are invited to Maymont Aug. 27, with close to 20 planning to go for a program and supper. Borden will have their potluck supper and August birthdays Aug. 29 at 5:45 p.m.

Radisson Fair horticulture results were: roots and vegetables high point winner Connie Verishine of Langham, Martha Lessing of Radisson second and Tyler Yaseniuk of Hafford third; garden fruits high point winners Connie Verishine and Shantel Amson of North Battleford, tied for first, and Laura Reiter second.

In gymkhana Emma Saworski, Tristen, Spencer and Cooper Flath and Tearia Tracksell were entered in the peewee, eight and under classes. In walk and lead, Tristen was first, Emma second and Tearia third. Other results were: egg stomp - first Tristen, second Emma and third Tearia; egg and spoon race - first Emma, second Tearia and third Spencer; musical tires - first Emma, second Tristen and third Spencer; pole bending - first Spencer, second Tristen and third Emma; and barrel racing - Spencer first, Emma second and Tearia third. The youngest competitor was Cooper Flath and high point winner in peewee was Emma.

For juniors, aged nine to 12, entered were Cyane Sperle of Unity, Jade and Brooke Martin, Danika Diamin, JC Blais, Colton and Spencer Thiessen and Rayna and Bailey Yaseniuk. In walk and lead first went to Bailey, second to Rayna and third to Spencer. Egg stomp had Cyane in first , Rayna in second and JC third;. The potato race had first to Bailey, second to Cyane and third to JC. Keyhole had Cyane first, Bailey second and Colton third. Both barrel racing and pole bending had Cyane in first, Bailey in second and Rayna placing third. Cyane won the $20 high point award.

The intermediates, 13-16 years, had five entrants: Tonianne Saworski, Mykala Boutcher (with two horses) and Codie and Kelsie Yaseniuk. In the egg stomp, first went to Tonianne, second to Codie and third to Kelsie. The potato race had Codie first, Kelsie second and Tonianne third. The keyhole fastest time was Codie, second Mykala and third Kelsie. Barrel racing fastest time was Mykala, second Tonianne and third Codie. Pole bending had first to Tonianne, second and third to Mykala. High point winners were Tonianne and Codie, each getting $20.

Seniors, 17 and over, had Linaya Sidebottom, Nelda Swystun, Michelle Van De Meutter, Earl and Tell Kieper, Amber Mirosooky, Darcy Yaseniuk and Barry Thiessen competing. Results for seniors were: egg stomp - first Linaya, second Amber and third Michelle; potato race - Earl first, Tell second and Linaya third; keyhole - first Barry, second Linaya and third Amber; barrel race - first Michelle, second Earl and third Nelda; pole bending - first Michelle, second Earl and third Barry. The Gretna Green winner was Earl with Tell placing second. High point winner was Earl.

In the hide race Tell was first and Earl second. In jackpot barrel racing, first went to Nelda Swystun and the second and third fastest time to Amber Mirosooky (two horses).

In the kids' mini-tractor pull, winning tractor trophies were Dalton Friesen for three- and four-year-olds, Cooper Flath for five- and six-year-olds, Alyssa Popowich for seven- and eight-year-olds and Wyatt Friesen for nine- and 10-year-olds.
