Lots more happening in Maymont but it'll be happening after this issue so I thought I would share this with you in the meantime. So many people don't understand what Facebook or emailing mean; here is an explanation that might help you out.

Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues.

The site, available in 37 different languages, includes public features such as: marketplace which allows members to post, read and respond to classified ads; groups which allows members who have common interests to find each other and interact; events which allow members to publicize an event, invite guests and track who plans to attend; pages which allows members to create and promote a public page built around a specific topic; and presence technology which allows members to see who is online so they can chat with them.

Within each member's personal profile, there are several networking components. The most popular is arguably the wall, essentially a virtual bulletin board. Messages left on a member's wall can be text, video or photos.

Another popular component is the virtual photo album. Photos can be uploaded from computers or directly from cellphone cameras.

Another popular profile component is status updates, a feature that allows members to publish short announcements to their friends. All interactions are published in a newsfeed, distributed in real time to the member' s friends.

Facebook offers a range of privacy options. A member can make all communications visible to everyone, can block specific connections or can keep all communications private. Members can choose whether or not to be searchable, decide which parts of their profile are public, decide what not to put in their newsfeed and determine exactly who can see their posts.

For those members who wish to use Facebook to communicate privately, there is a message feature, which closely resembles email.

Electronic mail, referred to as email since about 1993, is a method of exchanging digital messages. Modern email operates across the Internet or other computer networks. Email servers accept, forward, deliver and store messages. Senders and receivers of messages don't need to be online at the same time. They only need connect briefly for as long as it takes to send or receive a stored message.
