Winter fuels quilters' creativity

It can be said that neither snow nor extreme cold affects the productivity of a quilter, since this is largely an indoor pursuit. And, in fact it may be that during such times, in the depth of winter, the productivity of a quilter increases as does enthusiasm for the activity.

Such was the case Feb. 1 when 16 members of the Rivers' Edge Quilt Guild met at the Don Ross craft room, eager to share events of the past month, learn about program plans for the next month and display their most recent efforts.

Two instructional sessions took place during the month of January. Joyce Vany shared the methodology for Dream Weaver, a colour arrangement explained in the Quilter Magazine of 2011, and Irene Greer helped the group uncover the intricacies of Celtic Knots. Both classes resulted in the production of interesting projects some of which are still in the making.

Upcoming events include a three day-quilting marathon Feb. 21, 22 and 23 during which time Irene Greer will guide members through a mystery quilt experience, always a fun-filled project. The beginner level of this mystery quilt will appeal to all. During the three days of intensive sewing much can be accomplished, working either on the mystery quilt or a personal project.

The photographs are a sample of items displayed at show and tell, which followed the meeting.

The guild was pleased to welcome one new member to the group and invites any other interested quilters, be they beginner or experienced, to contact Irene at 306-937-3551 or Barb at 306-445-0486 for more information.
