Norman Carter held its first Scholastic Book Fair of the year last week. Themed 'All-Star,' the school definitely earned this title. The fair, held over three days, was a huge success. Extended hours and the fact that it was held in conjunction with parent - teacher interviews contributed to this. The book fair turned out to be so successful that the school library will receive 60 per cent of the total profits, around $2,100, in books from Scholastic. Librarian Roxanne Greenwald made sure to 'keep her doors open during the event to the parents, all day, anytime' to ensure parents could get some of their Christmas shopping in. There was an opportunity to enter in the 'Family Night' Draw, which consists of the winner receiving $25 in books, as well as their classroom receiving $25 in books. The lucky winner was a student in Grade 3. Congratulations to you and your classroom! Of course, as with any event, there was a wonderful group of volunteers that helped make the book fair go smoothly. Mrs. Greenwald is very thankful for all of the extra help from the student volunteers. The Grade 5 and 6 students helped monitor the fair at recess and helped partake in the final clean-up. The next fair will be held in the spring.

WILS (Wilkie Independent Living Services) held its third Toy Bingo, Raffle and Bake Sale this past Saturday. The event had a great turn out with approximately 150 people showing up to join in the festivities. Prizes donated by local businesses and staff were a huge hit, but the most sought after prize this year was the Furby. Last year monies raised were used to purchase a Wii and games for the participants of WILS. This year a total of $560 was raised. This amount will help furnish the new day program facility that the agency is leasing. Executive Director Janice Sander would like to pass on a huge thank you to Mary Nestmann, the Day Support Worker for WILS, for organizing and running the Bingo.

"She did a fabulous job!"

The Wilkie Hobby and Trade Show was also held this past Saturday at the Saskcan Community Centre. This year there were 38 tables set up, which is an increase from the past three years. Some of the returning products were Epicure, Scentsy, Avon and a few tables with homemade crafts for sale. Some of the new products available were Eagle Hill Foods, Lavish and Homestyle Candle Company. Lunch catered by Laura and Eldon Schwab was available. It was a perfect day to shorten that Christmas list!

A reminder the Wilkie Elks Lodge #568 BINGO will be held this Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Saskcan Community Centre. You must be 12 years old to play. Monday, Dec. 3, the Wilkie Pee Wee Outlaws Hockey Team will be having their Ham Drive. Keep your eyes open for them! If you are not home this evening but would like to purchase a ham, be sure to contact any member of the Pee Wee team. Wilkie Late Night Christmas Shopping will be on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from to 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come and check it out!
