The Borden Friendship Club held a Christmas bingo Dec. 17 with a small turnout.
Winning hams or turkeys were Helen Sutherland, Audrey Duda, Lottie Petriew and Terry Kun. Double winners were Rita Smith, Jackie Meister and Eileen Petrun. Winning a consolation prize was Josh Kun in a tiebreaker. Thanks to the Borden businesses and individuals who donated prizes or cash for the turkeys and hams.
Upcoming is a Kaiser tournament Jan. 14 and a cash bingo Jan. 23, both in the club room at 7 p.m.
The Fielding Wildlife Federation held their annual meeting and horn scoring Dec. 11 in the Radisson Hall. The results were: mule deer typical - ladies, Shelby Prescesky, 148 and 7/8 - men, Chase Rothenburger, 171 and 7/8 - youth, Brady Ferris, 145 and 3/8; mule deer non-typical - Chad Rothenburger, 196 and 6/8; moose - Allan Carnahan, 90 and 4/8 and Edna Carnahan, 69 and 2/8; whitetail deer - ladies, Kristi Mackrell, 135 and 7/8 - men, Kurtis Domak, 150 and 7/8; and perch - Daryl Biehn, one pound, four ounces.
The door prize was won by Myron Prescesky and the raffle was won by Larry Mackrell. Thanks to the donors and to Larry who has scored horns for Fielding Wildlife for many years.
Affinity Credit Union in Borden collected non-perishable food items to go to local needy families. Each time you donated, you entered a draw. Winning the tea and chocolate basket was Laura Loeppky and Lorraine Olinyk won the fleece blanket and travel mug.
Borden Co-op also collected for needy families in the area. For donating items and entering the draws, a meat platter went to Gerry Wainwright and a veggie tray to Gloria Derbowka.
Borden School kindergarten to Grade 6 held their Christmas concert Dec. 19 in the Borden Community Centre. Preschool class started the evening, singing Reindeer Hokey Pokey in costume and with actions. Kindergarten and Grade 1 sang Jingle Bells, followed by Grades 2-4 singing Up on the Housetop and Jingle Bell Rock.
The Grade 5 and 6 class had a drama performance, Christmas Around the Clock, set in a clockmaster's shop. Characters were the clockmaster and his wife, the mayor, two council members, boss robber and two helpers, two police officers and Santa. The main clock that tells when Santa should leave on his trip gets stolen but the thieves get caught, the clock is returned and Santa is able to get on his trip to deliver presents at the right time.
All the children sang We Wish You a Merry Christmas and K-6 exchanged gifts amongst themselves. Santa arrived to hand out presents to all the preschool children in the area.
The Borden Community Centre Preservation Committee is holding their annual snowmobile rally Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 10 a.m. from the Borden Community Centre with the last rider out by 2 p.m. There will be chili until 4:30 p.m., then a ham supper open to everyone from 5 - 7 p.m. Contact Dianne at 306-997-2235 or Gloria at 306-997-2021 for more info.
