Who is Santa Claus?

Last year when our grandson got to see Santa, he said to his dad, "Who is this man?" Santa Claus - how do you explain him? Hope this helps just in case you have to explain this to someone.

The magic of Christmas lives on as a three-year-old experiences his first encounter with Santa.

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and simply Santa is a figure with legendary, mythical, historical and folkloric origins who, in many western cultures, brings gifts to the homes of the good children during the late evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve. Santa Claus is generally depicted as a portly, joyous, white-bearded man, sometimes with spectacles, wearing a red coat with white collar and cuffs, white-cuffed red trousers and black leather belt and boots.

Thank you, Dawn, for the supper at the Maymont Hotel Dec. 8 - great food, entertainment and a chance for people to get together.

I had the chance to meet Randy Weeks MLA, of Biggar, that evening at the hotel. I was a little skittish introducing myself as the Maymont reporter. Some of you know I shared his email address, telephone number and mailing address asking people to write to him about Highway 376. Well, to my surprise, the comment was keep sending those emails and letters as they are all sent to the Minister of Highways and the more we complain, maybe something will be done. Again here is his email address: [email protected], and other contact information: Box 1413 Biggar, SK, S0K 0M0, 1-877-948-4880 or (306) 948-4880.

Power outage - are you ready for one? Maymont and surrounding areas had a power outage Dec. 7. I know I scrambled for candles. Make sure you are able to find what you need in the dark and be safe while you're looking for those articles.
