Wet summer curtails number of visitors

It's been a couple of months now since I sat down to put some words to print.

It's been a couple of months now since I sat down to put some words to print. Earlier this year I had to back off on a couple of things to let my body recover some from a few medical problems that had reared their heads and were making life a little crazy. This hiatus has also let me do some soul searching as to what I wanted to do in life and what my physical condition would allow me to do.

I think back to some words of an old friend of mine when we celebrated his 55 birthday. He said anyone who thinks that at 55 he or she can still continue as if they were 20, is either lying or was dogging it at 20.

I guess this year was my body telling me that it had no intention of following the commands that my brain kept sending it. In fact, it gave me a distinctive Italian gesture where the left hand is placed in the crook of the right arm and the right arm is swung upwards with the palm facing inward. Just try it and you will know what I mean. I want to thank all of the readers who told me how much they missed my ramblings. I was quite surprised by their response.

Over the summer Meota continued on its normal path with an inundation of folks coming to enjoy the parks. This year there were not quite as many as in other years, but the rainy weather definitely had a lot to do with that. I have been told we probably set a new record. This has delayed some activities for the industrious folks around here.

The Do Drop Inn seniors' center is getting an addition to store some of the equipment that has been stuffed here and there and has definitely been in the way. This addition will certainly make the place a lot less cluttered and more usable. During the process though, some rain got in and soaked up the place. Remedying that requiring some extra hours by the volunteers who have been doing a great job with Robert Iverson taking command.

SaskPower has also been busy stringing a new power line down along the Metinota road. This will probably fix the problems they have been having with regular outages for the last while.

The wet weather did not put a damper on the Meota Girls' Club activities. They worked hard at their crafts to prepare to enter in the competitions at Territorial Days. Their labours were justly rewarded with Kendra Policha taking first prize and Maryann Policha taking second in the crafts category. A number of prizes were taken in the 12 and under category. Emma Belland placed first, Tristan Amos took second, Sydney Winterhalt garnered third place and Faith Bird took fourth. In the 13 to 17 art category, Victoria Winterhalt placed first with best in division, Maryann Policha took second, Kendra Policha placed third, Kijsa Elder and Meg Scorgie shared fourth place.

The girls club started their new season Sept. 11 in the Meota United/Anglican church from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All young ladies are welcome.
