Easter's over; let's bring on aggressive spring weather instead of this nasty white stuff again. If you are a believer and follower of the Farmers' Almanac, April and May don't appear very promising.

An interesting visitor came to the Grade 6R class at Unity Public School as part of the students' "how to" projects.  Grade 6 student, Lexie Cooper, with the help of her mom, Carol, and her beloved horse, Bella, visited the students as Lexie demonstrated caring for her horse as well as saddling and riding. Students wrote an essay on something they enjoy doing and followed their written portion with a classroom demonstration of their essay material.

The unseasonable snow and cold forced the cancellation for the second year in a row of the community's Way of the Cross Walk. Organizers and participants were disappointed as this was an interdenominational service that took people out of the pews into an outdoor venue that was more interactive.

The 88th annual music festival - this event has run even longer than the Academy Awards - capped off with a final performance held April 13 at the UCHS gym. Forty-two numbers were performed with the finest in piano solos and duets, solo vocalists, musical theatre and even the exciting new St. Peter's Band that performed the Star Wars theme.

Irene Thiessen-Campbell was recognized for her 44 years of dedication and commitment to the Unity Music Festival, including her involvement when she was a teacher bringing new groups in the festival each year, including one group of over 80 students. Irene was also an accompanist and a committee member for all of this time. Her dedication to the music festival earned her a rousing standing ovation when presented with the Volunteer of the Year award by the festival committee.

With spring well on its way, the Town of Unity would like to remind everyone to keep our parks clean. Please clean up after your pets and refrain from throwing trash on the ground as there are plenty of garbage cans around our parks.

Coffee row certainly is as puzzled as everyone else on the weather pattern, in addition to theorizing on what we can expect for spring. Knowing this affects our agriculture community, they are empathizing with their farmer friends on not only the unending grain backlog but now the inevitable delay to spring seeding. Ball fans amongst the "rowers" are anxious to see some live action ball games on the fields. So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week.
