Wakefield Memorial Shuffleboard champs crowned

The Lyla Wakefield Memorial Shuffleboard tournament was held at the Neilburg Seniors' Center Jan. 15. Rose Leitheiser and LaVonne Rutherford teamed up to win the event and they will have their names engraved on the trophy that hangs in the center.

The annual Lyla Wakefield Memorial Shuffleboard Tournament was held at the Neilburg Seniors' Center Jan. 15.  The A Side winners (holding the trophy which their names will be engraved upon) are Rose Leitheiser and LaVonne Rutherford. The runners-up were Jacquie Goodall and Marlene Washenfelder.

The Lyla Wakefield Memorial Shuffleboard tournament was held at the Neilburg Seniors' Center Jan. 15. Rose Leitheiser and LaVonne Rutherford teamed up to win the event and they will have their names engraved on the trophy that hangs in the center. Jacquie Goodall and Marlene Washenfelder were in second place. On the B side, Mabel Scoular and Della Thom were the victors and Marrian Graham and Mary Graham were the runners-up. Lunch was served after the shuffleboard games concluded. Lyla's son purchased the trophy and the event is played annually in memory of Mrs. Wakefield.

Sympathy is extended to the Goodfellow families on the passing of James "Gordon" Goodfellow. He died Jan. 12 in the Lloydminster Hospital at the age of 93. His funeral was held from St. John's Anglican Church in Lloydminster Jan. 21. Goodfellow leaves to mourn his loss his sons: Robert (Bob) Goodfellow and Doug (Sharon) Goodfellow, both of Neilburg; son Jerry Goodfellow of St. George's, Man.; and his three daughters: Margaret (Jack) Westwood of Battleford; Sharon (Dave) Routley of Winnipeg. Man. and Cathleen (Shaun) Wright of St. Albert, Alta.; as well as a daughter-in-law, Wendy (Brent Porteous) of Edmonton; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Gordon was the oldest of nine children and has eight sisters.

The Neilburg Recreation Board winners for the three final trip of the month draws of 2012 were: October - Ryan Graham of Maidstone won a trip to Las Vegas; November -trip to Edmonton was won by Aaron Gibbons; December - trip to Honolulu, Hawaii was won by Cole Fischer of Lloydminster. The winners of the $120 cash were Kim and Karen Putnam (October), Margaret Chibri (November) and Shawn Hein of Lloydminster in December. You can now follow the Neilburg Recreation Board on Facebook.
