Volunteers needed and appreciated

As you can tell for the last little while we have traveled to many places and enjoyed many outings. This weekend we were in Hafford at their Summer Sizzler. There was a buzz around the town and all the volunteers were busy.

As you can tell for the last little while we have traveled to many places and enjoyed many outings. This weekend we were in Hafford at their Summer Sizzler. There was a buzz around the town and all the volunteers were busy. The week before we were in Radisson at their exhibition, a 25th wedding anniversary and at Those Were The Days in North Battleford.

Why am I telling you this again? Well because all of these events needed volunteers and, even though I'm sure they were all thanked by whoever put on these events, I would like to thank them all again. And thank you to anyone who didn't attend these events and is a volunteer.

Dedicated hearts like yours are not so easy to find. It takes a special person to be so generous and kind. To care so much for your fellow man is a quality all too rare. Yet you give of your time and talents, for all in need to share. So thank you for being a volunteer, we're privileged to work with you. We want you to know how appreciated you are, not just today, but the whole year through.

Ruddell had a wiener roast Aug. 14. The weather co-operated, there was a good turnout and fun was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Devon Beaudoin and family on the new addition to the family named Oscar Danger Beaudoin.

As previously reported, Ashton Brogden, grandson of Kay Greenslade, completed his parachute training and is now classified as Airborne. A Warrant Officer in Royal Canadian Air Cadet Corps 2537 of the Battlefords, Ashton went to Trenton, Ont. for the Canadian Forces Basic Parachutist Course, July 9 to Aug. 10.

A group of 50 cadets from all over Canada endured a two-week pre-course to get them physically and mentally ready for CFLAWC (Canadian Forces Land Advanced Warfare Center). Part of the fitness course standard to be met included seven chin-ups, 31 sit-ups and a 1.6 km run in under seven minutes 30 seconds. One day they had to do 2,000 sit-ups in two hours.

This year WO Ashton Brogden was the only cadet from Saskatchewan to attend the course. Having completed this course, he can transfer this qualification into the regular forces and proudly call himself Airborne.

One of the outings Ashton participated while in Ontario was a trip to Connaught where he did abseiling and the Iron Man Race. On their way back to Trenton from Connaught, they did a cultural tour of Ottawa that included the War Museum and the Changing of the Guard on Parliament Hill. After the ceremony they were guided through the Parliament buildings and surrounding area.
