The Saskcan Community Centre played host April 29 to the volunteer appreciation banquet sponsored by the Town of Wilkie, Wilkie and District Health Foundation and the Heartland Health Region.

The night started with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. followed by a banquet at 6, catered by Second 2 None out of Battleford. One hundred and eight guests enjoyed the evening with Access Cable coming out to tape the event. Lana Gerein MCed the event with a few speakers throughout the evening: Celeste Bridgeman - volunteer co-ordinator for Heartland Health Region, Hazel Lorenz - regional representative of Heartland Health Region, Margaret Skinner - Wilkie and District Health Foundation and David Ziegler - mayor of Wilkie.

Door prizes were generously donated by local businesses and volunteers were given a letter opener from the Town of Wilkie as well as a change purse or microfibre cloth from the health region.

The banquet is held every second year. In alternate years, the town council donates money towards a volunteer tea organized by Bridgeman.
