The Battlefords Vintage Automobile Club has had a busy summer, starting construction on what will become a museum attraction and working behind the scenes restoring vintage autos.

Recently, a fundraising event designated as "Cruising the Dub" day was held in North Battleford.

Approximately 40 cars and trucks, two boats and a motorcycle gathered at the local A&W Aug. 22. The proceeds of all Teen Burgers sold that day were donated to fight MS. The local A&W provided prizes and giveaways to the participants. Cruise the Dub events were held across Canada.

As part of the festivities, the BVAC made a draw for a 1976 Ford Thunderbird. The lucky winner was Larent Blais of Battleford. He was presented the keys when he took delivery of the vehicle Aug. 24.

The vehicle was donated to the club by Jack Opheim for the purpose of fundraising for the club. The low mileage T-Bird required some TLC to bring it out of long-term storage, but shined up well with approximately 1,200 tickets being sold.

The proceeds of the raffle will be used to restore the 1953 Chevrolet tow truck used by the late Fred Light at his service station, which was donated to the club by Fred Walker. The restoration has started with a couple of parts vehicles being located and tear-down started.

This has led to another project being spearheaded by the BVAC, a replica of the Fred Light Service Station being constructed on the Fred Light Museum grounds. The intent is to display the restored tow truck in the replica service station.
