The Resort Village of Big Shell has a new attraction that will keep reading enthusiasts busy. Nancy Grummett, seasonal resident at the Resort Village of Big Shell, is an avid reader and wanted to find a way to share her love for books and reading with others.
"I saw a television broadcast on CBC national news about these cute little village libraries that were set up around various communities in the United States," commented Grummett, "I thought it would be a wonderful way to share books with other readers that are vacationing at the lake."
That she did. Grummett searched for construction plans online. Then she gathered the required construction materials and set to work, measuring, sawing, fastening and caulking the cute little cabin-looking book exchange, complete with a window.
Mayor at the time of the interview, Bob Boire, appreciated Grummett's idea and saw it as a complement to the community.
"It is so nice to see the people of the village taking ownership and wanting to make a contribution towards beautifying the community," commented Boire who has not sought re-election for mayoral duties. "It's a visual display of appreciation."
Grummett says the book exchange has become very popular as novel and children's books are swapped regularly.
The Little Village Library of Big Shell can hold up to 30 softcover novels giving the seeker quite a selection of reading material from romance and mystery to do-it-yourself and comic books.
