The Maymont Central School seniorboys' volleyball team ended a successful season with a trip to 2A provincials in Medstead. They played well and were excellent sports. The team captured fourth place, losing a close bronze medal match to Medstead.
Grades 1 to 8 participated in the Remembrance Day poster, poem, and essay competition. The Sonningdale Legion judged the entries. Poster winners in Grades 1 to 3 were Alivia Hein, Cadence Lake, and Ype-Klass Elgersma. Winners for Grades 4 to 6 were Audrey Friesen, and Jeremy Haidenger. Winners from Grades 7 to 9 were Darby Milman, Aliyah Wasmuth and Stephanie Tanner. Black and White poster winners were Keara Amson, Conner Rothenburger, Justin Whitehead, Jan Friesen, Ice Maxwell and Natasha Pickering.
The poem winners were Dakota Warkentine, Audrey Friesen, Taylor Davies, Patience Brown, and Darby Milman. The essay winners were Jenna Fouhy, Jeremy Haidenger, Janna Ferris, Taylor Davies, Darby Milman and Carlee Hamilton and special mention to Alicia Shipowich.
The annual Christmas concert was held in the gym Dec. 16. Mr. Brand, principal of the school, was the MC for the evening. Following his welcome, the crowd sang O Canada. The first item on the program was a play-poem by the Grade 4 class called, Stage Fright. The choir followed with two songs.
The main production of the evening was Jingle in My Heart by kindergarten to Grade 6 classes. Santa Claus has lost his jingle. The elves, reindeer, and children must help him get it back.
The evening concluded with a visit from Santa Claus. He distributed candy bags to the children.
A hot dogsale was sponsored by the Grade 8 class to help two students and their family who recently lost their home to a fire.
The staff and students of Maymont Central School would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a healthyhappy New Year. Classes begin again Wednesday, Jan. 5.
