Neilburg Composite School held a "muffin morning" the first day of classes, Sept. 4.

There are no new teachers or assistants this year, however both Mrs. Perkins and Mrs. Windsor have returned from their respective maternity leaves. Welcome back, ladies!

The following week the SRC sponsored several Welcome Week activities. These included Rainbow Day Monday where students were encouraged to wear as many colours as possible; Pyjama Day with a free pancake breakfast; a Western Day Wednesday; a gym blast and barbecue Thursday with students wearing their intramural school colours and enjoying hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch; and Friday was either Hat Day or Crazy Hair Day, whichever students preferred.

This week students are encouraged to pay $2 to wear a hat Friday. All proceeds will go to the SRC to help support their sponsored child.

The annual magazine kick-off campaign began Oct. 1, with sales ongoing throughout the month.

The Neilburg School Community Council (SCC) will be holding their annual meeting Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The council requires an additional member so all are encouraged to come out and learn more about what the SCC does.

Elementary coupon book sales are rapidly drawing to a close. Currently the school is about 30 books short of their goal of 193 books, which is what was sold last year. Many students have won prizes in the daily draws. These include: Ramsay Flicek, Evan Sawtell, Keegan Chibri, Aliana Worman, Taeya Wiens, McKenna Goodfellow, Eugene Rathwell, Kaylyn and Bradyn Koch, Dustin Spence, Carter Cammidge, Nick Hein, Dominic Madlang-Awa, Johnn Peters, Brennan Olsen and Konnor Hiscock. More prizes will be awarded at the final windup.

NCS is collecting pennies which will be donated to UNICEF. To date they have collected $90.55. Drop any unwanted pennies off at the school prior to the end of October.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the local 4-H program or who might be willing to be a new project leader, please contact Shane Moir at 823-4925.

Yearbooks for the 2011-12 school year are now available at NCS for $25 each.
