UCHS sends 11 athletes to provincials

It was raining and cold the first day of district track competitions but that didn't deter any athletes. UCHS track club advanced 11 athletes to provincials this weekend.

It was raining and cold the first day of district track competitions but that didn't deter any athletes. UCHS track club advanced 11 athletes to provincials this weekend. Athletes advancing are Kelsey Wildeman, Jessica Weber, Kyla Van De Meutter, Nikita Lantz, Keenan Lang, Syd David, Kerri Gerein, Dustin Wallace, Kaitlyn Robertson, Gavin Dyck and Dustin Ubell

UCHS is gearing up for awards night Tuesday. This event showcases the success of academics, sports and arts programs over the past year in the school. Eligible students have also received invitations for the annual Living Sky awards night in the Battlefords June 14 celebrating the same successes division wide. The end of May marks 14 days of classes left for students before exams. The Grade 12 class is experiencing their last month of high school before they move on to graduation day, June 29.

The annual Miners slo-pitch tournament attracted a number of teams last weekend. This annual event brings action to the diamonds and visitors to the town, as well as helps generate some revenue for the upcoming senior hockey season.

Every night of the week there is free ball action either in softball or baseball divisions. Come and support your favourite team and enjoy a ball game in your community.

Senlac 4-H held their annual achievement day May 27 as the club celebrates its 75th anniversary. Swarthmore 4-H club will hold their achievement day Saturday.

Unity Credit Union and Delta Co-op Partnership committed to erecting a sound booth, storage shed, and other odd jobs on the Credit Union diamond to complete this venue for its use in ball season. This was completed in conjunction with Co-operative Week of Volunteering as part of the 2012 International Year of the Co-operatives. Over 24 volunteers showed up with work gloves and tools to get the project done. In addition to the hands on labour they provided, they donated the proceeds from their kick off event towards the project

The swimming pool opens Saturday. The staff have decided to kick off opening day with a barbecue to help raise money for new equipment. This event takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Bring your families down to meet this year's pool staff and celebrate opening day.

Unity Western Days is this weekend. New this year is an outdoor market at the town office parking lot Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It can include market garden or craft tables, or even garage sale items. The committee is still looking for parade entries for a 1 p.m. parade Saturday. Double Portion is holding a concert at the Agriplex Sunday at 10 a.m. Contact the town office for details at 228-2621.
