TV show investigates haunting at the hall

Maymont News

The episode, An Old Dance Hall With History (The Other Side), aired on TV on Nov. 28 and 29 was about Maymont Hall.

Rob King was director and here are some of his notes. “The hall had many stories of dark shadows, taps turning on, growls and thumps and bumps.â€

Bill and Jeff, the fellows working on the project, had just started when they heard a thump on the stairwell from the projection room. They thought it might have been a board that toppled over, one that would not have done so on its own.

They used various devices, but felt the spirits did not feel comfortable communicating with strangers. They decided they would do interviews the next day.

The second day, they interviewed Mel Deagnon, who was their contact person. Mel, Bert Carpentier and Tom Caldwell entertained the crew and one of the crew, John, danced with Carol Deagnon. They needed the music to output for a version of the investigation the next day.

Their final day in Maymont they interviewed two young ladies who danced at the hall, Katlyn Gray and Krista Gray. They informed the crew they saw dark shadows, heard screams and voices and also witnessed the taps running. It was noted many people seem to think a soldier haunts the hall.

Crew member Bill went under the stage and also checked the attic. Bill and Jeff tried, through various means, to make contact and played the music they recorded with Mel’s band. They seemed to get some responses.

They found what they called residual haunting and heard the voice of a man, but then said many men and they were in the war. The upstairs there was some communication, but they could not get any information other than detecting something was there.
