June 22 is drawing near and we're getting excited for our potluck and jam session at the Maymont Hall. Doors open at 4 p.m.; supper is at 6 p.m. Come rock and roll before supper and then again after supper. Door prizes, 50/50, lots of entertainment and dancing, if you choose. Everyone welcome.

What happened in 1963? Why do I ask? Because Denise is turning 50. In 1963, the Beatles released Please Please Me with From Me to You on the B side. The Studebaker ended production. Alcatraz closed. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his I Have a Dream speech. Popular films were Cleopatra, The Longest Day, Lawrence of Arabia and To Kill a Mockingbird. Popular musicians were The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, The Drifters and Jim Reeves.

Popular TV shows included Coronation Street and The Flintstones, which are still on TV. Turning 50 is not such a bad thing. After all, take a look at what your life had to bring.

You've laughed a lot and cried a little too / And of the hard times, I'm sure there were few! / You've fallen and stood right back up on your feet / and many good people you've had the pleasure to meet. / You've worked very hard and played a lot too. / There's not too many that can do what you do. / There are so many people around you that care / and hope at your 100th, they will be there. / In your first 50 years you've done some incredible things, But I can't wait to see what the next 50 brings!

Also with July birthdays are Joeleen Milman, Colleen Soule, Greg Ducharme and Albert Beaudoin. Sorry if I missed anyone.
