Try, try again Â… TSN-Kraft Hometown Tour

I have been involved in Unity's Run for Riderville and I still chirp my Avonlea relatives that they "stole" the title from us. I have been on Western Canadian fastball committees. I aided in several years of the Hockeyville bid.

I have been involved in Unity's Run for Riderville and I still chirp my Avonlea relatives that they "stole" the title from us. I have been on Western Canadian fastball committees. I aided in several years of the Hockeyville bid. I volunteered at the IIHF event. And, nearly every year since its inception, I have been part of the nomination for Unity to be included in the TSN - Kraft Hometown Tour bid.

Every year I have collaborated with other residents to pick a worthy cause and put in a bid outlining all the things Unity has to offer. I've tried for lights for the ball diamonds, increased funding for our walking paths and last year drafted a formal invitation for the TSN crew to come see the community they talked about on air during the 2010 IIHF event and award us money for the new pool. We haven't been able to crack the code.

However, I submitted another bid this year for another project. Much to my surprise, so did another individual named Jenna Rutherford.

You can view our submissions on the website Kraft Celebration Tour 2014. Nominations were open until June 6. On July 1, the top qo communities will be named. Voting begins July 21 to 22, for Canadians to choose the communities to win the prize money that could either be $25,000 or $100,000.

Winning communities will see the TSN on-air crew visit their community and generate much excitement about not only the prize awarded but having a national television broadcast on a favourite sports station.

Don't you think a town with a catering crew called "Kraft's Catering" should be an automatic by into the finals for a Kraft-sponsored competition? Tune in folks; let's hope this is our year!
