HUMBOLDT — When The Eagles took their 14-year break in 1980, Hotel California was formed to fill the void.

When the cover band was formed in 1986, they said they could have never imagined they would travel the world or share the stage with bands like The Doobie Bros., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gretchen Wilson and REO Speedwagon.

The band continues to tour internationally, playing that 鶹ýAVern California sound of the ’70s that exemplifies The Eagles. They are coming to perform in Humboldt May 16.

“The experience of a Hotel California show isn’t just about the band – it’s about celebrating the music and the memories, and the band gets the audiences involved and on their feet. Close your eyes and you’re right back there,” the band said on their website.

Band members have also performed in many other touring bands, like The Guess Who, April Wine, Glass Tiger, Coney Hatch and Foot In Cold Water.

Mike Dimoulas has been with Hotel California since it formed in 1986. He plays the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, double neck guitar, talk box and vocals.

“He’s meticulous about his work, and his sound today is the result of many years of refinement in recreating The Eagles’ signature guitar parts,” according to the band’s website.

Other band members include Andy Lapointe on bass and vocals, Rick Spyder on electric guitar and vocals and Kevin O’Donnell on drums and vocals.

Hotel California’s visit to Humboldt is being organized by Arts Humboldt.

“This tribute band is the real deal and we're very excited that they have agreed to make Humboldt one of their North American destinations,” the arts organization said on Facebook.

The band performs at the Uniplex on Thursday, May 16. Cocktails start at 7 pm and the show starts at 8 pm.
