The Grades 10, 11 and 12 students attended Try-A-Trade last week at the new curling facility in North Battleford. There were many hands-on activities to try like carpentry and welding. A lot of information was presented to the students as they begin to think about their futures.
Badminton season has wrapped up for the year. The junior players had an interesting experience. As they were preparing to leave for conferences in Leoville, one player realized he could not find his racquet. The school was searched but the racquet could not be found. Finally an announcement was made over the intercom to see if anyone had seen the missing item. Lo and behold, a classroom teacher brought the racquet out of the classroom. It was sitting right by the player's desk.
One crisis was solved. Then, just after turning on to the Spiritwood highway, it was discovered the vehicle transporting the players and coach had a flat tire. Luckily, the players had many skills and were able to change the tire and get everyone to Leoville in time to play.
Ty Fouhy and Connor Rothenburger played better and better as the day progressed. They finished third in their boys' doubles pool. Brayden Harris and Tyson Wawryk also played boys' doubles. They finished the round robin in a three-way tie for first place. When the points were counted, they were given second place. They lost the gold medal match to a very strong team. They went on to win the bronze medal match. Thanks to Cathy Gillatt for coaching the junior team.
The senior badminton team attended their conference playoffs at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School. Their trip was not nearly so exciting. They played well. Carter Amson and Kcarli Maxwell advanced to the district level but because of other commitments, they were unable to attend. Thanks to Kandice Walker for coaching the senior team.
Staff and students are very excited to have the Rocks and Rings program in the school for a few months. It is a curling game that has rocks on wheels. It is a great way to introduce the game of curling and some curling skills and strategies to the elementary students. It is fun to play too!
Katy Schmidt and Arin Amson, Grade 11 students, finished their club volleyball season on the weekend. They play on an 18 and under club team based in Martensville. They attended the provincial playoffs in Saskatoon on the weekend. They had a good season and got to play a lot of volleyball.
