Wade Worman and Brandi Chammartin are collecting donations for the Team Diabetes five kilometre run in Edmonton, which will be held in August of 2011. Wade says, "Our daughter, Aliana Worman, age 3, was recently diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Juvenile diabetes is a hereditary disease in which your pancreas does not create its own insulin. There is currently no cure for this disease. Our daughter, and many others like her, are described as being 'insulin dependent.' Aliana cannot produce her own insulin, therefore she receives two insulin injections each day, as well as "poking" her fingers four times a day to check her blood sugar levels. Thankfully, with the proper maintenance, our daughter can maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. However, since there is no cure, she will always need to maintain her blood sugar levels with careful monitoring and insulin injections. My wife and I have decided to help combat this disease by participating in a Team Diabetes five kilometre run. We are attempting to raise funds for the Canadian Diabetes Association. We would really appreciate any help we can receive."

If you would like to donate, the Neilburg Composite School secretary, Cathy Ducherer, has a pledge form, in the office. Or you can call Wade directly at 823-4206. Donations of $15 or more can be receipted for tax purposes.

The Neilburg Composite School Community Travel Club is planning a trip to Africa. In the spring of 2012 the travel club will extend a helping hand in Kenya. The group will be helping to build a school in a small community. Swahili lessons, a safari, a visit to a giraffe sanctuary and immersing the students and chaperones in the culture, are just a few of the highlights of this trip. It is open to current students in Grades 9 through 11, as well as to any parents affiliated with the group. More details can be found online at www.eftours.ca
