If it looks like spring, and acts like spring, it should be spring, right?

May 27-29, the diamonds will host the annual Miners slo-pitch tournament, which includes three days of tournament play and a dance Saturday night featuring Paradise Road, the great band that we heard at the Oilperson's Bonspiel. This big tournament offers cash prizes for the three events. Also, the Friday night slo-pitch league started April 29 and runs every Friday until June 24.

At UCHS, the track team is gearing up for their season. They have been practising indoors for some time now but will kick into high gear. Their first meet takes place May 17, which will be followed by district qualifiers May 25 and 26 in North Battleford. Those advancing from districts will compete at provincials the first weekend in June. Unity has a strong field again this year and thoughts are there will be as many, or more, athletes returning to provincials again this year for UCHS.

Watch for the UCHS drama club presentation of a Harry Potter musical parody. This semester's production is presented May 17, 18 and19 for the general public. May 19 showing will include a dinner theatre, but advance tickets are needed for this. Be sure to get yours early as it will certainly be a sell out. The drama club works hard to put on a production each semester sure to please audience members of all ages, and this semester's musical, which won seven awards at the regional drama festival, will be no different.

Unity School of Dance, having done well in competitions in Saskatoon, Lloydminster and North Battleford, will be winding down for another dance year. And May 13 and14 they will showcase all of their club's talents at their annual recital.

The Unity museum office is officially open for the season as of May 1. The museum folk are hoping again for your support of their work by either personally visiting, bringing visitors or recommending this fine facility.

May 7, the Unity Facilities Committee, representing the new hall and pool projects, is holding their community garage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Unity curling area. There will also be a barbecue lunch available for purchase starting at 11:30 a.m. A project unveiling and presentation will be at 1 p.m. sharp. This will show the public what this committee has planned for fundraising in the upcoming year and beyond, and at what state these projects are at.

The Unity golf course is getting ready for another golf season.. The golf club welcomes new members of all ages. Opening date was April 30, and those folks feeling it was far too long of wait for the links, were out taking advantage of the weather.

Coffee row is alive with discussion on the pageantry of the royal wedding, as well as the federal election results and surprises there, or the Osama Bin Laden story - all big historic events in a matter of four days. Soon the banter at these morning sessions can switch to the upcoming growing season.
