Radisson TOPS SK5243 held their installation of officers and awards ceremony on Oct. 2 in Radisson Town Office meeting room with seven members present. Special awards given out by Tina Hessell were walking charms to Doris Hamp and Tina and Ilene Youchezin. Shirley Whitt was Division 3 winner for 2013, getting a certificate and charm. Perfect attendance pins went to Doreen Parker and Lorraine Olinyk. Doris did a tribute to outgoing executive and Lorraine and Ilene installed the officers for 2014-15: Leader - Lorraine , Co-Leader- Shirley, Secretary - Jean Sawchyn, Treasurer Tina, Weight Recorders Doris and Doreen, Historian - Ilene. Each one was given a charm, fruit and bouquet of flowers. Voted as Miss Incentive was Doreen and Jean did a salute to the KOPS alumni. Doris received her 10-year pin and a rose and Doreen achieved six years as a KOPS, getting a pin and rose. Each officer and KOPS received certificates. For the re-dedication pledge, each member read sentences pertaining to TOPS and lit candles - 13 in all, then recited the Re-dedication pledge together. We welcome Bev Boden of Maymont to our chapter. The TOPS chapters now hold their elections in July instead of March, thus the later ceremony. New members are always welcome and meet at 9 a.m. Thursday mornings in Radisson Town Office.
A bridal shower was held Oct. 3 in the Borden Senior's Room to honour Erica Wensley, who is getting married on Oct. 18 to Shayne Boucher and they will be living in Saskatoon. MC was Sandi Long, who introduced the head table, sister Jesse Wensley, grandma Emily Maddaford, Erica, mother Gayle Wensley and attendants Bonnie Boucher and Kaitlyn Piprell. Sandi read a poem on marriage, Jesse had a contest on remembering the 14 items in the basket. Everyone was given a clothespin upon arriving and anytime someone said the word wedding, the clothespin was gone. The gifts were opened and passed around, then Erica thanked everyone for coming and those who arranged everything. She also said thanks for the many lovely and useful gifts, along with a gift of cash from the community. Lunch and beverages were then enjoyed by all.
Borden Fire and Rescue are planning to renovate the fire hall and held a 50/50 draw on Oct. 4. They sold tickets amounting to $1,176 and winning $588 was Gladys Wensley of Saskatoon. The firemen, with the help of Affinity Credit Union staff, will be holding a hot dog sale on Friday, Oct. 17 in the Borden Fire Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will also possibly be raffle prizes to buy tickets on.
Congratulations to the Borden Senior Girls Volleyball team that won the Hafford Tournament on Oct. 4 with teams from Hafford, Borden, Maymont, Perdue and Spiritwood. Borden beat out Perdue in the final. The Junior Girls had played in Maymont on Oct. 2 where they also won. The Senior boys played in Colonsay Oct. 3 and 4 and, even though winning three games out of four on Saturday, placed fifth.
The former Borden Art and Eatery is being leased by Grace and Friday Mbuekor with their daughter Barinadum working with them. The cafe will now be called GG Garden Grill and they are having a grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 11, from noon to 6:30 p.m. Grace and Friday moved to Saskatchewan from Nigeria 17 years ago. They will be offering Canadian favourites plus tasty Nigerian specialties.
