1. By thanking the family, you thank the veteran. The families are the ones who pay a big price for their loved one's service and in thanking them you are appreciating the service of the veteran in their family.
2. A large percentage of our veteran population are seniors. Offer them some help in their yard or home. It's a small offering for the big service they offered to us and our country.
3. Remind your children the words "our true North strong and free" in the national anthem is because of our veterans. Instill patriotism in more events than a Team Canada event.
4. Offer a military discount in your business year-round, that includes our veterans.
5. Teachers: Invite a veteran to speak at your school, in a classroom or to the entire school. A personal story has far more impact on both the speaker and the listener.
6. Do a random act of kindness for a vet or their family. Remain anonymous.
7. Visit a cemetery or cenotaph with your family as a reminder of those ultimate sacrifices made.
8. Take part in a Remembrance Day service as a show of support and gratitude for the service and sacrifice these veterans gave to our families, our community and our country.
9. Contribute to a veterans' charity - buy a poppy, look online at the Wounded Warriors website and see if you can help there, or contribute to the development of the Highway of Heroes in our country.
10. Shake a veteran's hand on any given day and acknowledge their service with a "thank you".
