Time for a rain dance

Are we the only place that is crying for rain? It seems like it has rain all around us but we are desperately dry. Sunday afternoon clouded up and gave us some thunder and lightning but only two tenths of rain.

Are we the only place that is crying for rain? It seems like it has rain all around us but we are desperately dry. Sunday afternoon clouded up and gave us some thunder and lightning but only two tenths of rain. Pastures are suffering as are the seeded crops. Maybe the two tenths should encourage us it still does know how to rain.

Over the last weeks old friends and former residents have dropped in to renew connections. Barkley Bessey, whose dad was the station agent here, spent a day. Nellie (Freimark) German Schneider also came "home" for a day. Nellie was born here and taught school at Pleasantsite School in the early 1950s. Lena and Arnold Kobsar dropped in for coffee after touring the area. Lena was raised here but now she and Arnold make their home in Penticton, B.C. Anne Klein was with us for the best part of the week visiting with Carol Rohl and various friends. She worked to tidy up her lot. It is always a treat to have people return and say hello. It usually involves the guessing game until the names are sorted out and then some reminiscing.

Rabbit Lake continues to but on its best face. Mary MacDonald, Cornie Martens and Marg Penner have taken the bull by the horns and scraped and repainted the hall windows and doors. Also the fire hydrants are again a shiny red and the sign posts around town are becoming bright white. Once again the power of volunteers becomes evident.

Meeting Lake Regional Park is once again hosting Canada Day in the Park. This is a free admission day and will feature children's activities, free mini golf, cake and coffee, and fireworks at dusk. In addition there will be a bunnock tournament during the afternoon. Get your teams organized and register in advance at the park gate or register that day at noon. There will be cash payout for prizes.

The Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association is rolling up their sleeves, mowing and preparing the jamboree site. Free camping is allowed but it is on a first come first served basis and there are no guarantees regarding sites. The Ag. Association welcomes volunteers for preparatory work as well as setting up the tent the Thursday before the jamboree. Many hands make light work.
