HUMBOLDT — When Alex MacIver stepped off No. 412 at the station last Thursday morning, June 16, [1949] he was completing nearly 37 years of railroading in Saskatchewan.
He was greeted by Mrs. Maclver and a large number of fellow employees and friends.
After four years construction work with the J. D. MacArthur Company on the Canadian Government Railway from Transcona to Sioux Lookout, Mr. MacIver joined the Canadian Northern Railway on Oct. 5, 1912, at Saskatoon, as a brakeman.
Shortly after that he made his first run to Humboldt and vividly remembers the great activity in the town in those days. In 1918 Mr. MacIver was promoted to conductor and the following year moved to Humboldt, with his runs going to Battleford, Saskatoon, Carrot River and Melfort.
In 1942 he took over the run on No. 412 to Saskatoon and return.
Mr. and Mrs. MacIver's plans for the future are still indefinite. They will leave shortly to visit their son Stanley in Ottawa and in the meantime Mr. MacIver keeps busy with his favorite hobby of gardening.
